Tokyo Children's Cancer Study Group (TCCSG)

  We are a group of pediatricians specializing in childhood leukemia, lymphoma and other malignant diseases and forming an organization called the Tokyo Children’s Cancer Study Group (TCCSG), whose mission is;

    to bring about a complete cure of such diseases and to promote healthy growth and development of these children.

   The TCCSG was established in the early 1970s as a voluntary organization and from the 1980s launched multi-institute clinical trials of new treatment strategies for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, acute myeloblastic leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.  As of 2020, the TCCSG unites more than 320 pediatricians at 55 leading hospitals in the Kanto and Koshinnetsu areas, and Kumamoto prefecture. 

  A comprehensive clinical study for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia started in 1984 named L84-11 study (484 children enrolled), followed by L89-12 (418 children), L92-13 (347 children), L95-14 (97 children), L99-15 (754 children), and ongoing L04-16 study.  By means of adopting a most advanced therapeutic strategy in each period, the treatment outcome has improved considerably. 

  By expediting continued progress in the methodology and the system, our studies have been acknowledged as those based on sound scientific ground.  The results of our studies were published in prestigious international medical journals (see publication), which facilitated international exchange of ideas and close collaboration. 

  Childhood hematologic and malignant diseases are rather rare, but in this field highly specialized knowledge and skills are required.  To maintain the highest quality in their treatment, the TCCSG plays an active role in cultivating such knowledge and skills thorough educational programs, group activities, and sharing and exchange of human resources among the participating hospitals.

  The TCCSG has a history of its activities for more than 40 years, and over 2,000 patients have been enrolled and treated in our studies.  Based on this fact, we as a group are ready to accept full responsibility to continue ongoing and further studies aiming at complete cure and sound growth and development of children through analysis of long-term results and implementing effective measures for late complications.
